The Opportunity

A fast-growing, founder-led consumer facing business is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to step into the most senior finance role within the company. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building from the ground up. You’ll have the autonomy to create structure, implement strategy, strengthen reporting, and develop a finance function fit for scale. The Role

Reporting directly into the founders and senior leadership team, the Financial Controller will take ownership of the entire finance function while partnering closely with the business to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Own monthly management accounts, reporting packs, and financial analysis
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
• Maintain and strengthen financial controls, compliance, and audit readiness
• Manage transactional finance, including AP, AR, payroll, and day-to-day operations
• Oversee VAT, tax compliance, and statutory reporting
• Review and improve finance processes, reporting accuracy, and internal controls
• Partner with operational teams on cost control, margin improvement, and commercial decision-making
• Evaluate current systems (Sage 50) and bring ideas for process and systems improvements
• Build, mentor, and upskill the finance team, shaping the department to support future scale

Strategic Impact

This is more than a traditional Financial Controller role. You will be instrumental in:

• Creating financial discipline and reporting rigour across the business
• Building the finance infrastructure required for further expansion
• Improving visibility over profitability, working capital, and cash performance
• Introducing best practice, new ideas, and scalable finance processes
• Acting as a trusted advisor to founders during a key growth phase

About You

• ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance lead in an SME or scaling business
• Strong financial control, reporting, and process improvement background
• Experience managing and developing finance teams
• Comfortable operating in founder-led, entrepreneurial environments
• Prior exposure to retail, consumer, hospitality, or multi-site businesses is highly advantageous
• Systems-savvy, with experience improving finance processes and introducing new ways of working
